The Flying Bowman

The weekend of the 31st Jan. the J A Russell womens boat crew went to Piha for the 3rd series of the N Z Surf Boat Seriers.

Carla Linton, 100 Meters into the first race of the day decided that as well as rowing she would try flying lesson. This proved not to be a good trick as she is now sporting a black bum check the size of a dinner plate.

Now on a more serious note I have not seen a person as airborne as Carla was in my 34 years of surf boat rowing, and I must congratulate the rest of the crew for their performance after this mishap and continuing out to sea as we had no other option. Once back on dry land we then found out Sophia Craig was in no shape to row again and Tania Archibald had a oar hit here in the chin splitting it open and requiring stitching at hospital.

This has not put then off and we will be heading to North Island Champs for the long weekend.

After two events we where in 2nd place only to have round two points stripped from us due to officials changing their minds. But thats been and gone.
